38 collegiate teams and 31 club teams competed this weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Salt Lake Regional Athletic Complex on April 23-24, 2022. Teams in both divisions participated in a pool play format on day one. On day two, teams with at least two pool play wins went to a single elimination championship bracket. Teams with less than two wins went to a division 2 single elimination bracket.
On the collegiate side, Texas Quidditch (TXQ) took gold and is now tied with Middlebury College for the most national titles. This is the second collegiate division championship win for TXQ after the collegiate-club split in 2017. They beat Creighton Quidditch, the first team from the midwest region to reach a national championship final, for the win.
The club division had a repeat of the last US Quidditch Cup club final in 2019, with Texas Cavalry defending their title against Texas Hill Country Heat. This time, Texas Hill Country Heat pulled ahead, beating Cavalry 150-130 in a matchup for the history books. This marks Heat’s second appearance in a club division final and first time taking the gold.
Alongside the USQ Cup bracket for the championship, a division 2 bracket was held for both divisions. SHSU Quidditch won the D2 collegiate bracket, and the Bay Area Breakers won the D2 club bracket.
